Undergraduate Programs
1. Innovative top talent program (Cai Qiao Class)
Training Objectives
To cultivate leading medical talents with firm ideals and convictions, all-round development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor education, solid academic foundation, noble ethics, profound humanistic literacy, strong willpower and outstanding innovative competence. Graduates shall master fundamental theories, core knowledge and practical skills of medicine; possess sound communication and coordination capabilities as well as an inquisitive spirit; achieve proficient command of academic English, keep abreast of cutting-edge disciplinary advances, and maintain robust lifelong learning capacity and global vision. Upon completion of systematic research training and standardized residency training, graduates are qualified for clinical practice, teaching and scientific research in high-level medical institutions, universities and research institutes. They possess outstanding developmental potential to grow into academic leaders or physician-scientists in their respective specialties.
Selection Mechanism
Elite candidates are selected from first-year students majoring in Clinical Medicine (5+3 Integrated Track) in the spring semester of the first undergraduate year.
Training Scheme
The Cai Qiao Class adopts a continuous integrated training model of Bachelor-Master-Doctor (5+3+N), featuring phased training, rolling assessment and elimination-based student status management. Master’s studies are seamlessly integrated with standardized residency training. During doctoral training, outstanding students may receive financial support from the China Scholarship Council to pursue doctoral degrees at the University of Hamburg and Ulm University in Germany, or joint doctoral degrees at Uppsala University in Sweden. Students who fulfill all academic requirements and meet relevant training criteria will be awarded: Bachelor’s Graduation Certificate, Bachelor’s Degree Certificate, Practicing Physician Qualification Certificate, Standardized Residency Training Completion Certificate, Master’s Graduation Certificate, Master’s Degree Certificate, Doctoral Graduation Certificate and Doctoral Degree Certificate.
2. Clinical Medicine (5+3 Integrated Track)
Training Objectives
To cultivate high-caliber medical professionals with firm ideals and convictions, all-round development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor education, solid academic grounding, noble morality, profound humanistic attainment, resilient willpower and promising innovative potential. Graduates shall grasp basic theories, essential knowledge and practical competencies of medicine, with strong communication and coordination skills and proficient academic English proficiency. After passing the National Practicing Physician Examination and completing standardized residency training, graduates will attain the competency of senior residents, equipped with solid clinical capabilities as well as fundamental clinical teaching and research competence. With sustainable lifelong learning abilities, they are poised to develop into senior clinical specialists in relevant disciplines.
Training Scheme
A continuous bachelor-master integrated training curriculum is implemented. Students with verified eligible undergraduate academic performance will progress to postgraduate studies and complete a 3-year standardized residency training program at national-level standardized training bases. Postgraduate education for Master of Medicine is fully aligned with standardized residency training to deliver integrated talent cultivation. Students satisfying all stipulated academic requirements and training benchmarks will obtain: Bachelor’s Graduation Certificate, Bachelor’s Degree Certificate, Master’s Graduation Certificate, Master’s Degree Certificate, Practicing Physician Qualification Certificate and Standardized Residency Training Completion Certificate.
3. Clinical Medicine Discipline Group
(5-year undergraduate program with category-based admission, covering two specializations: Clinical Medicine and Medical Imaging) In the spring semester of the first academic year, students will stream into corresponding specializations based on personal interest, academic aptitude, self-perception of majors, academic performance, personal preferences and enrollment quotas of each track.
Training Objectives
A. Clinical Medicine
To foster well-rounded medical practitioners with firm ideals and convictions, solid knowledge foundation, noble moral character, profound humanistic literacy, tenacious willpower, innovative awareness and balanced development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor education. Graduates shall master core medical theories, fundamental knowledge and practical skills, coupled with competent communication skills and solid academic English capabilities. They are competent for clinical posts in medical institutions at all tiers, with independent lifelong learning capacity and diversified career development prospects.
B. Medical Imaging
To cultivate interdisciplinary leading medical imaging professionals with firm ideals and convictions and all-round development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor education. Graduates shall possess extensive interdisciplinary knowledge spanning humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, with strong cross-disciplinary integration capabilities. They will master core medical theories, foundational knowledge and hands-on skills, alongside excellent communication skills and advanced academic English proficiency, plus preliminary scientific research and innovative capabilities. Upon passing the National Practicing Physician Examination and/or health professional technical qualification examinations, graduates will meet the competency standards for resident physicians and equivalent roles in medical institutions of all levels, with independent lifelong learning capacity and eligibility for further advanced studies.
4. Dual Bachelor’s Degree Program: Medical Imaging + Artificial Intelligence
In response to national strategies including the Healthy China Initiative and next-generation artificial intelligence development, this program leverages Xiamen University’s integrated strengths in premium medical disciplines and competitive engineering disciplines, pooling high-quality resources from two national first-class undergraduate majors: Medical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence.
Training Objectives
To cultivate interdisciplinary leading medical imaging talents with firm ideals and convictions and all-round development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor education. Graduates shall acquire broad interdisciplinary literacy in humanities, social sciences and natural sciences with robust cross-field integration capacity; master core medical theories, fundamental knowledge and practical skills, sound communication capabilities and advanced academic English proficiency, as well as preliminary scientific research and innovative competence. After passing the National Practicing Physician Examination and/or health professional technical qualification examinations, graduates will meet post competency requirements for resident physicians and relevant positions in medical institutions nationwide, equipped with independent lifelong learning ability and access to further academic advancement. In response to national strategic demands and social development in artificial intelligence, the program also equips graduates with theoretical knowledge, technical expertise and methodologies of computer science and artificial intelligence. Graduates are capable of solving sophisticated medical and scientific problems related to AI, stay updated on frontier advances in artificial intelligence and medical imaging, and qualify for scientific research, R&D and industrial administration roles in the AI sector. They will emerge as highly competitive leading professionals capable of guiding future industrial development.
5. Dual Bachelor’s Degree Program: Medical Laboratory Technology + Biomedical Engineering
Aligned with the Healthy China national strategy and the development priorities outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan — which call for accelerated product innovation and technological breakthroughs in industrialization, with a key focus on novel in vitro diagnostics — this program integrates two first-tier disciplines of medicine and engineering, reshaping its curriculum system through interdisciplinary integration of medicine, engineering and natural sciences.
Training Objectives
To cultivate interdisciplinary innovative leading talents in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Engineering and related cross-cutting fields, who uphold firm ideals and convictions and achieve holistic development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor education. Graduates shall possess sound humanistic and social science literacy, sound physical and mental well-being, a strong sense of social responsibility and rigorous professional ethics. They will command solid theoretical knowledge and experimental operational skills in clinical medicine and laboratory diagnostics, together with foundational expertise in biomedical engineering. Equipped with rigorous research thinking, hands-on proficiency and innovative awareness, graduates can apply biomedical engineering principles and methodologies to address challenges in laboratory diagnostics, growing into responsible, aspiring innovative leading professionals for interdisciplinary sectors integrating medical laboratory technology and biomedical engineering.
