English-Taught Medical Undergraduate Program (MBBS) for International Students, Southeast University
1. Program Introduction
According to "Provisional Regulations on Quality Control Standards of English-Taught Medical Undergraduate Education for International Students in China", the Ministry of Education of China has approved Southeast University as one of the qualified universities in China to enroll international students in the English-taught undergraduate program of medicine. Since 2006, the university has started to recruit international students for this program, and over 1,000 graduates have graduated from this program.
The program aims to cultivate qualified international medical professionals, giving due consideration to the possible needs of them to serve in their motherland or other countries.
After completing the total required credits, students will be conferred diploma by Southeast University and qualified students will receive the Bachelor Degree of Medicine Science (M.B.B.S.). Graduates will have the opportunity to enroll for Physician Qualification Exam according to the relative regulations of the respective country.
Taught in English, the program is open to international students in pursuit of the science and practice of medicine, whose courses are offered by School of Medicine, SEU.
2. Overview of School of Medicine, SEU
The School of Medicine is located beside scenic Xuanwu Lake in central Nanjing, a concentrated university district offering a quiet environment ideal for medical learning and research. Founded in 1935 as the Medical College of National Central University, it has undergone multiple institutional iterations, with a host of celebrated medical scholars having studied or taught here over nearly 90 years.
As the medical school of a central-administered Project 985 and Class A Double First-Class comprehensive university, the School follows the university’s strategy of strengthening engineering, elevating sciences, refining liberal arts, developing distinctive medicine, advancing interdisciplinarity and emerging fields. Guided by the motto “Erudite, Benevolent, Skilled, Sincere” and the tenet of “Academics First, Students Foremost, Faculty as the Foundation”, it leverages comprehensive university strengths and national platforms including the National Industry-Education Integration Platform for Key Medical Research and the State Key Laboratory of Digital Medicine. It ranks among the first Ministry of Education pilot institutions for training outstanding innovative physicians.
Available undergraduate tracks cover Clinical Medicine Discipline Group, Clinical Medicine (5+3 Integrated Track), dual bachelor’s programs in Medical Imaging + Artificial Intelligence and Medical Laboratory Technology + Biomedical Engineering, all designated National First-Class Undergraduate Majors. The School delivers a full integrated training pipeline spanning undergraduate, master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral studies, with 5 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 2 postdoctoral stations, 7 first-level master’s programs and 2 first-level professional master’s programs.
Committed to building a future-focused medical training framework empowered by artificial intelligence, the curriculum cultivates students’ digital, computational, design and interdisciplinary thinking, alongside sound physical and mental wellness. A four-dimensional high-level training system is constructed through integration of general and specialized education, fusion of teaching and research, interdisciplinary collaboration and coordinated undergraduate-postgraduate cultivation to nurture competitive innovative medical practitioners.
Case-based seminars run throughout all curricula to build independent learning, logical reasoning, presentation, decision-making and leadership skills, while cultivating professional medical ethics. Hands-on practical training is delivered via the top-tier National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Basic Medical Sciences and the Clinical Skills Training Simulation Hospital.
The faculty consists of 169 academic doctoral supervisors, 106 clinical doctoral supervisors and 394 master’s supervisors, including over 40 national high-level talents. Most supervisors hold overseas academic experience and oversee nearly RMB 100 million in annual national, provincial and ministerial research grants. Large cross-disciplinary research platforms under the Division of Medicine and Life Sciences support collaborative basic-clinical and med-engineering research. Recent major awards include Second Class National Science and Technology Progress Prizes, multiple first-class prizes from the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province, Chinese Medical Science and Technology First Class Prizes, and national & provincial first-class teaching achievement awards.
The School maintains stable academic and research partnerships with prestigious medical universities and institutions across the US, Germany, Sweden, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore and more. International students from over 40 countries account for over 15% of the student body, one of the highest shares campus-wide. Undergraduate and postgraduate students have access to summer observerships, international conferences, short-term overseas visits and joint graduate training programs to broaden global horizons.

Those who abide by Chinese laws and the regulations of SEU will be conferred bachelor's degree of medical science by SEU after they have completed all required academic credits and obtained the graduation certificate.
