Introduction to the Oncology Teaching and Research Section

The Oncology Teaching and Research Section of Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University is an integrated academic unit dedicated to clinical care, medical education and translational research in oncology. Based on the Department of Oncology, the section has developed a multidisciplinary platform for the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of malignant tumors. It serves patients with common and complex cancers, including lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors, gynecologic tumors and other solid tumors, with a strong emphasis on standardized, individualized and whole-course care.

The section has formed a professional team consisting of senior specialists, attending physicians, young clinical faculty members and an experienced oncology nursing group. Supported by multidisciplinary collaboration, the team provides comprehensive treatment strategies that include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, endocrine therapy, interventional therapy, cancer-related symptom control, nutritional support and palliative care. The department also highlights specialty techniques such as molecular-guided precision treatment, tumor hyperthermia and integrated supportive care, aiming to improve therapeutic efficacy, quality of life and patient safety.

As an important teaching base of Southeast University School of Medicine, the section undertakes undergraduate, postgraduate and resident training in oncology. Its teaching activities focus on clinical reasoning, evidence-based decision-making, standardized cancer management, communication skills and humanistic care. Faculty members actively participate in curriculum development, bedside teaching, case-based learning and clinical skills training, helping students and trainees build a systematic understanding of modern oncology.

The section also attaches great importance to scientific research and discipline development. Its research interests cover tumor biology, precision oncology, tumor immunity, radiotherapy and comprehensive cancer treatment. In recent years, team members have undertaken national and provincial research projects and published academic papers in peer-reviewed journals. Looking forward, the section will continue to promote high-quality medical service, rigorous education and innovative research, contributing to the international development of oncology education and cancer care.
